About Pete
-OWL Founder
Growing up in Seattle, Washington Pete Erickson was introduced to the outdoors at a young age. His parents were into fly fishing, sailing, skiing, hiking, flying and all around travel. They instilled a deep love of adventure in Pete.
Pete has worked as fly fishing guide, ski host (Jackson Hole), outfitter camp chef(Snake River), guest ranch hand(Wyoming), and many other outdoor occupations.
Although Pete is drawn to all things outdoors and the wellness those activities offer, he has perhaps focused most of his passion and time toward the art of fly fishing. After dedicating most of his teen years to fishing the stillwaters of British Columbia and later earning a journalism degree from the University of Oregon, Pete relocated to Jackson Hole Wyoming and embarked on a 25+ year trout guiding career.
Initially introduced to competition angling by accident and somewhat reluctantly, Pete managed to win the gold medal at the 2002 ESPN Great Outdoor Games in Lake Placid, New York, and spent years as a member of Fly Fishing Team USA. Throughout those years he notched many top finishes at the FIPS Mouche World Fly Fishing Championships–eventually becoming a team world champion in 2022(Italy) and individual world champion in 2023(British Columbia).
Pete continues to work in the fly fishing industry as an Ambassador for Loon Outdoors, and a Rod Designer for ECHO Fly Rods.

Pete currently resides in Boise, Idaho where he is a Freshman English teacher, and a fly fishing guide during the summers.
